Overview

The Hitch project was born out of the need to address the challenges faced by young professionals in Lagos during their daily commutes. These challenges included congested roads, limited public transportation, and rising fuel costs.

Research Findings

User research revealed that safety, affordability, flexibility, and comfort were top priorities for riders, while drivers emphasised the importance of platform trust and safety.

Painpoints

  • Safety & Security: Riders and drivers needed identity verification, safety features, the ability to report issues, accountability assurances, and the ability to set preferences and reject rides.

  • Affordability: Users wanted to offset transportation costs through carpooling, set and view prices, handle payments, and estimate costs.

  • Convenience: Users needed convenient pickup and drop-off options, notifications, the ability to schedule recurring rides, and easy cancellation and coordination.

  • Quality Control: Users desired the ability to set rules and preferences and provide ratings and feedback on rides.

Brainstorming & Solution

In response to these challenges, groundbreaking attributes like multi-layered identity checks, smart pairing algorithms, fluctuating cost structures, custom suggestions, and electronic transactions were conceived. Examination of competitors and investigative studies of the industry guaranteed synchrony to sector norms and latest developments to amplify the project's total efficiency.

Learnings and Reflection

Users enjoyed the application's straightforward pricing, wallet-oriented payments, and effortless ride organisation. The lucid presentation of ride specifics before booking expedited the process. The sleek user interface was appreciated for its ease of navigation. Security measures, such as identity checks and PIN verifications, were praised for providing reassurance to both drivers and riders. Built-in feedback and support functionality addressed user complaints effectively, while progress markers during searching and signup provided transparency about the app's activity.

Despite these positives, users proposed enhancements. Users recommended the trip search feature be simplified to ease use, and suggested reducing forced choices. Option to avoid low-rated drivers were also sought for maintaining a safe environment. These alterations have the potential to boost the application's user-centric experience and overall satisfaction.
